This month’s theme | The Death Card
Endings, transformation & the loss of innocence
Using Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as a modern myth, this month’s Arcana explores the Death tarot card not as an omen, but as a passage. Together we’ll examine the strange, disorienting experience of outgrowing old identities, crossing thresholds we can’t uncross, and realizing that transformation often begins long before we consciously recognize it.
As Alice falls deeper into Wonderland, logic dissolves, identity shifts, and the world she thought she understood no longer behaves the same way. Through the symbolism of the Death card, we’ll explore what it means to change states — much like growing up itself — and why endings are often less about destruction and more about becoming.
Grounded, thoughtful, and story-driven — no prior tarot knowledge needed.
Future Themes & Discussions
The Hanged Man
The story of the Hanged Man
Betrayal, surrender & the wisdom hidden inside suspension
The Hanged Man may be the most psychologically confronting card in the tarot.
Together we’ll explore why Odin hung himself from the World Tree in pursuit of wisdom, why Judas occupies such a painful archetypal role in human consciousness, and why transformation often requires a period of suspension before rebirth can occur.
This class became controversial for one reason (and almost got us banned from a venue):
Most people want transformation without surrender.
The Hanged Man suggests that perspective only changes when the old way of seeing can no longer survive.
This isn’t love and light spirituality. It’s not fortune telling. It’s a deeper look at the myths that continue shaping human consciousness beneath the surface as storylines shift over time.
June | Zoom
Edward Scissorhands
July | Zoom The story of Temperance
Using Edward Scissorhands as a modern myth, this month’s Arcana explores the Temperance tarot card through the lens of black-and-white thinking, emotional extremes, and the quiet intelligence of neutrality. Together we’ll examine what happens when someone exists between categories — gentle yet dangerous, isolated yet deeply loving, human yet “other” — and why people often fear what they cannot easily define.
Like the angel in the Temperance card, Edward becomes a figure suspended between worlds. Through symbolism, story, and archetype, we’ll explore the guardian-like qualities of Temperance: restraint, integration, compassion, and the mysterious third force that emerges when opposites stop fighting long enough for transformation to occur.
Grounded, thoughtful, and story-driven — no prior tarot knowledge needed.
The Secret Garden
August | Zoom The Magician * Judgement * The Sun
Explore what happens when life is given attention and care. Through the lens of the Secret Garden, we explore the use of tools, the call to step into responsibility, and the way truth and vitality return once something long neglected is brought back into the light.
Each event focuses on a specific story arc, using a small sequence of cards to explore a shared theme. Guests are welcome to listen, reflect, and engage at their own pace. There is no pressure to participate, share, or perform.
How it works: We Pick A Story
Each month we choose a story — a novel, myth, or fairy tale — and Shena writes an original short booklet exploring its themes through a sequence of tarot cards.
You get the booklet
Before the session you receive a PDF of Shena's booklet — short, beautifully written, yours to keep. Think of it as a slim essay or literary companion piece.
We discuss it live
Join a Zoom conversation with Shena and fellow readers. Listen quietly or jump in, your input and personal experiences are welcome!
You keep the recording
Can't make it live? No problem. You'll receive the full playback link after every session so you can watch on your own time.
